Avian Flu Study Blood Sample Collection
This is a first of its kind pilot study to find out if our dogs develop antibodies to Avian Flu through exposure to birds and the environment. If they do develop the antibodies, we can use those to monitor the health risk in our dogs, waterfowl, the environment, and even people.
Dr. Adam Black will be at our March 12 Training Day to sign up anyone who is interested in the study. Each owner would need to fill out a consent form and a short questionnaire about what and where each dog has hunted and trained, then he would draw a small sample of blood. Owners will be notified about the results in their individual dogs.
You do not need to be a member of Whistling Wings to participate but the first training day is free for those who wish to stay on for training.
Complete details about this Penn State study are included in the consent form linked below. You can download, print and fill out both the consent and questionnaire forms ahead of time.
